Indian Institute of Technology was conceived by Nehru and formulated as a higher institution for technology in order to grow indigenous superiority in technology.

While such reforms are welcome but I think the basic structure of IITs must not be changed in a haste and the matters must be dealt with care. I think we should just let them innovate in whatever they are good at.

I would rather appreaciate if these people create frameworks for creating institutes at par with the IITs for other disciplines as well.

If the institute has other disciplines, then I guess there's this possibility that it will dilute the performance and standard of the institue. May be then it becomes the "Jack of all trades, but master of none"!
